2014 Summer Scholars

This is the first of two information sessions about the 2014 Calit2-Qualcomm Institute Summer Undergraduate Research Scholars program, with applications due Feb. 18. Now in its 14th year, the Summer Scholars program is one of the largest undergraduate research programs offered at UC San Diego, with nearly 300 alumni to date. Approximately 30 scholarships, each carrying a stipend of $3,000, will be awarded for 10 weeks of full-time summer research in labs across the UCSD campus in 2014.

Summer Scholars may work in the labs of any of the Qualcomm Institute's roughly 350 affiliated faculty members, and they include professors from Arts & Humanities, Social Sciences, Jacobs School of Engineering, Natural Sciences, Biological Sciences, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and other units.

Are you interested in research? If so, you are strongly encouraged to attend one of only two information sessions: 1pm on January 8, or 5pm on January 9. As part of the application process, students must work with their faculty advisors to develop a research proposal, so it is critical to start the process as early as possible in the new year in order to meet the Feb. 18 deadline to apply for the 2014 summer program. For more information on Key Dates in the process, see box at right.
